About Traci Lei Artistry
As responsible adults, we face seasons of overwhelm, overdoing, and overcommitting, and we end up making the tough choice: “Something has to give!” Unfortunately, for me, that “something” was my art. For many years I told myself that one day the stars would align and I could finally become a legitimate artist, but another hard truth is that I had to stop living in the future, waiting for when I could finally get around to what really matters.
If you plan to spend some of your four thousand weeks doing what matters most to you, then at some point you’re going to have to start doing it.
Time Management for Mortals, Oliver Burkeman
So, decision made, trigger pulled, dice rolled, rubber stamped, took the s@#t, caught the fish—I picked one item from the menu: I am an emerging realist artist and student! My artmaking currently focuses on exploring techniques, media, and studies in creating the illusion of the three- dimensional on a two-dimensional surface. I am always inspired to depict nature, especially animals and flowers, and recently expanded my subject matter to include people. This step in my artmaking has helped to hone my artistic eye, taught me to trust shadows and what I know to be true to life, and motivated many explorations. I enjoy blending unusual hues into skin tones and finding that secret pop of color to elevate a painting. I plan to further expand subject matter to include everyday scenes and objects.
You do not create a style. You work, and develop yourself; your style is an emanation from your own being.

I am also dusting off my roots as a writer.
Following a stint as an English teacher, I entered into the world of government contracting and found myself using my training to write and edit (mostly edit) technical acquisition documentation supporting Marine Corps defense programs. Fifteen years later, I’m rusty but ready to write and edit outside of the technical swim lane (but I’m still available to provide technical writing/editing assistance!).
I am a hobbyist fitness instructor, gardener, cook/griller/smoker, and expert dog spoiler.
Traci Lei Artistry is about fulfilling a long overdue goal of pursuing meaningful life work. And, yes, if I could turn back time, I would have followed my artistic dreams right out of high school. Rather than wish for a do-over, I’m choosing to accept the gift of every distraction, every failure, every regret, and every experience that made me the triple threat I am today: artist, writer, and teacher.
I’m happy you’re here joining me in this journey!

A Moment to Share
I’m happy to share I will be participating in Looking Back—A Reflection of Artwork from 2023 exhibition at Corgi Clay Art Center. I entered the only piece I felt represented another year that only Satan would want to date.
